From the 2018 Roadtreking Winter Campout

This year's annual winter campout at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula has brought dozens of campers from all across the country to0 a winter wonderland of beautiful forests blanketed in over two feet of snow.

Although the event was scheduled just from Friday through Sunday, most arrived early. Pretty much the entire Lower Falls campground at the park is filled with Roadtrekers who journeyed from as far away as Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Nebraska and all parts in between.

Here's a Facebook Live video Jennifer and I did on this year's event.

Activities included lots of snowshoeing, photography, exploring the icy, windswept Lake Superior shoreline, socializing around huge bonfires and enjoying the breathtaking beauty of the northern woods in the wintertime.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the weekend:

The mighty Big Mac Bridge, spanning Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsula over the Straits of Mackinaw.

We did a two mile night hike through the woods to the lower falls, which were mostly frozen over. That's me and Bo

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources provided free snowshoes for us to use.

Friday, a bunch of us drove out to Whitefish Point to explore the frozen Lake Superior coastline

Jeff Martyka walked to the edge of open water for some close up photos

Bo ran and ran on the frozen shoreline. Can you see how happy he is?

Snug and warm and back in our Roadtrek after a long day playing in the snow, Bo crashes on the rear sofa as Jennifer catches up on email.
